Salsbury Steak
Good and inexpensive stick to your ribs dinner. Salsbury Steak and gravy, just what every guy likes. Here's a country twist on this delectable main dish.

Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
Steak Patties:
  • 1 lbs Ground Beef
  • c Italian Bread Crumbs
  • 3 tblspn Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 raw egg
  • Pepper to taste
  • No Salt!

Gravy:
  • 2 cubes Beef Bouillon
  • c Hot Water
  • c All Purpose Flour
  • 2 c Milk
  • Pepper to taste
  • No Salt!

Directions:
  • Place the beef bouillon cubes in the c Hot Water and set aside.
(This will give your cubes time to dissolve).
  • Mix 1 raw egg and the worchestershire sause in a medium mixing bowl.
  • Add the beef, bread crumbs, and pepper into a egg sauce.
  • Knead beef well to ensure all ingredients are mixed together in the beef.
  • Form into inch thick, oval shaped patties. You should get 4 patties out of this mix.
  • Spray a large skillet with a non-stick cooking spray or use 1 tblspn of butter/margerine.
  • Over medium heat, cook the patties until they are browned throughout.
  • Remove patties from the skillet, set aside and keep warm.
    * You can also place the patties on a cookie sheet and bake them at 350F for 25 minutes.

Gravy:
  • Add the Flour to the skillet with the patty drippings and brown slightly.
    * If you baked the patties, place 1 tblspn of butter or margerine in a skillet and melt it for the drippings.
  • Pour in the milk and mix well over medium heat.
  • Add the beef bouillon water. Make sure all the cubes dissolved thoroughly.
  • Add pepper to taste. (DO NOT add salt, there's enough salt in the bouillon).
  • Use a fork to stir the gravy. Press the fork in any of the flour that clumped during the mixing process.
  • Allow gravy to bubble, but not boil. Continually stir until desired thickness.

Serve:
  • Place steak patties onto individual dinner plates.
  • Using a gravy ladle, cover steak with 2 or 3 helpings of gravy.
  • Serve warm with your favorite veggies.

Alternatives:
  • Consider adding parsley or basil to the salsbury steak mixture. About cup of either herb will add an alternative flavor to the beef.
  • Consider adding a sauted onion to the gravy.
    • Dice small onion
    • Add a small pad of butter to the beef drippings, before placing the flour into the skillet.
    • Saute the onion until soft.
    • Add flour and continue the above steps for the gravy mix.
